Dear St. John’s Families,
St. John’s has begun asking parents to volunteer time, money or supplies as a part of their contractual obligation. I know that many of our children come from homes where both mother and father work and it is often difficult to have time with your families. The School Board and I have some ideas that we would like to share with you to help you with your 30 hours of volunteer work for our school.
➢ Attendance at Watermelon Welcome in August
➢ Bring another family as well as your own to Fall Carnival
➢ Come to Turkey Bingo—bring something to be used as a bingo prize
➢ Send food or games or be present at your child’s class parties
➢ Join the School Board
➢ Join PTO and come to the meetings
➢ Go to Johnnie’s Night—3rd Tuesday of each month (even in the summer)
➢ Come to Spring Bingo—bring a prize
➢ Come to Open House and bring another family
➢ Send copy paper to the office
➢ Come to school and make copies for your homeroom teacher
➢ Send construction paper to your child’s classroom
➢ Ask you child’s teacher what she needs in the classroom and provide it
➢ Help with Teacher Appreciation Week
➢ Help with Eighth Grade Graduation
➢ Mow the playground on a Saturday morning
➢ Come when we have church or school work day on a Saturday morning
➢ Freddy’s Night—1st Tues. of each month
➢ Be a regular reader for preschool
➢ Give 30 minutes of your lunch hour to help in the lunch room or recess
➢ Help on picture day
➢ Carpool helper—am or pm
➢ Fieldtrip driver
➢ Sidewalk ice scraper—am or pm
➢ Soccer coach
➢ Come to Chapel
➢ Auction helper and donations
➢ Box tops and Campbell Soup labels
➢ Santa’s Secret Shop
➢ Homeroom parent
➢ Spring track meet helper
➢ Emergency “fix-it” person
➢ Thanksgiving lunch
➢ Bake sale helper
➢ Substitute for a half day or a full day
➢ Wednesday envelope stuffer
I hope these ideas will help you find something you will be comfortable with when you volunteer for your school and your child. You may also pay $20 an hour for up to 10 hours, but your child loves to see you here at school and we can use your help whenever or whatever that may be. The record book will still be in the office for you to come in every now and then to put in your hours. Thank you so much for all you do for St. John’s. All of our volunteers are such a blessing to us.
Thank you,
Kaye Nelson, Head of School
