Middle School News

This winter finds the Middle School very busy!

The sixth grade have completed a study on rocks and minerals in their Earth Science class, and are entering now into the world of Energy Resources.  We have some neat activities with this unit, courtesy of the OERB!  The seventh and eighth graders are learning about biological evolution and adaptation.  Both classes will soon be discussing the rock and fossil record, and we hope to visit the Sam Noble Museum soon.

In sixth grade’s American History class the country has emerged from the War of 1812 and is now in the Era of Good Feelings.  Seventh and eighth grades have been learning about the Roman Republic and Empire, the fall of the empire, and the rise of Christianity.  We will have a unit project over this section of the book.

In Math, eighth grade Algebra is working with algebraic equations.  Seventh grade is entering the world of variables with Pre-Algebra, and sixth grade is reviewing fractions.

The English classes have been moving steadily through a unit on newspaper writing, and are about to send the articles to “press” in the computer lab!  We have been doing some creative writing and have nearly completed the first of the spelling/vocabulary books.

In Literature, the sixth graders are reading The Summer of the Monkeys, a book set in Indian Territory around 1890.  Seventh and eighth grades are reading and discussing Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, to accompany our Ancient History class.

Have a great Christmas!
